I met Ms. Jeanette at Lone Star in Tomball a while back, we had a math class together, but we never really talk to each other, until last year we have several classes together, and we did remember each other from the math class we took a while back. I think everything happens for a reason, and that the Lord put people in your path for a reason as well. We were both attending UHD. However, we have become really good friends, I feel like I have known her for years, we get along really well. I choose her for my assignment because she told me about her struggles that she face when she was in elementary school, I think her journey is inspiring and amazing and others should know about it.
Jeanette English and Spanish is exceptional, she is fluent in speaking and writing them as well. Growing up I never focused my attention on reading and writing. I found alternate interests in playing video games and bonding with my family. My mother always forced my siblings and I to read three novels every summer, to increase our knowledge, and to expand our imaginations. My relationship with literacy has been a journey all on its own. From learning how to sound out letters and words, to reading my first sentence , I have developed quite a valuable foundation and platform, that will eventually guide me to success.
I have had the pleasure of experiencing a love that just continues to blossom. A love that will never fail, nor will I fail it. This love that I speak of is my passion for reading, writing and literacy as a whole. A Learning Experience: Reading and Writing Through most of my adolescent years, reading books and writing my thoughts took patience that I lacked and a desire my mind could not want for. I know now that we are fortunate to have the opportunities to learn to read and write at such a young age. We are willingly and eagerly taught by our families, friends, neighbors, and teachers at school.
But I find myself wondering, what about those that were not so lucky? What made me the literate person I am today consists of 3 events from my childhood. To start off my reading career, the summer before 4th grade I stayed the night with my grandma. She was my best friend and introduced me to a lot of things, including Mid-Continent Library. The next morning we went to the Burr Oak Woods off 7 highway and had an awesome time! Afterwards we stopped at the library just down the street, I picked out 2 books a magazine and most importantly a movie. At the time I never knew a library would have those types of things so I was pleased. Instead of just using her Mid-Continent Library card to check out everything I had chosen she let me setup my very own!
That was so exciting for me, I felt like a grownup, I even bought. Literacy Journey My literacy journey starts before I could read. When I was in preschool I have memories of my mom and two older brothers reading to me. I remember reading during that time were The Emperor's New Clothes specifically by my brothers, Sylvester and the Magic Pebble, and Where the Wild Things are by my mom that was one of her favorites as a child. My parents were not avid readers but encouraged relatives to give us books instead of toys. Then in fifth grade, we started reading really good books. Usually as a class. I found myself needing a way out of this terrible world in the sixth grade. So I started ready heavier books, like the Harry Potter series.
I realized that books gave me a chance to visit a different world. By seventh grade, I loved English class. The teacher, the assignments, the environment; everything made it enjoyable. Eighth grade, I had the highest grade in the class, which made everything I did, literacy wise, amazing. I tried really hard on assignments, which ended. Eventually I began cherishing writing as I began my English class. English taught me how to become a better writer through different writing method and etc. My Literacy Narrative I was never truly an avid reader when I was younger. I was the oldest of five siblings and left in charge of taking care of my younger brothers and sister. I was more prone to spending time outside than reading a book. Of course, I did find myself enjoying a good mystery novel, but playing ball would always trump even a good book.
My audience for this literacy narrative essay is relatively small and young, with a total of 14 persons. The males surpass the girls greatly by three — six girls and eight males. They are between the ages of 17 and 22 years old. Ten persons are 18 years old, two persons are 19 years old, one person is 17 years old and one person is 22 years old. However, the average age of this audience is 18 years and 4 months. Majority of the audience are of American decent — 12 American students and 2 Chinese students. The predominant school class represented is freshman. There are 13 freshmen and only 1 sophomore.
Only two female students are enrolled in the same major, which is Pre Nursing. Early in my life, I used books as an escape from the harsh reality in front of me. With this, students should be taught at least the basic skills that they will need in the future. There are several reasons why computer literacy should be considered as a requirement: First, computers make the student learning process easier. Second, these machines are used in almost all working fields. Finally, technological developments depend mostly on computers. A computer is an important tool for learning. Students can write their school paper using computers.
They can conveniently look-up information using the Internet. If students, for example, were asked to write a paper about pollution, but they do not know the meaning of the word, they could use a search engine to search for its meaning. They will find different information from the definition of the word, to the types of solutions to prevent pollution from happening. They can also find recently published studies on pollution as well as new techniques for its prevention. All these information can be found easily if the student was taught how to use the computer and on how to use search engines.
This will be useful for them in their future. Finally, the massive improvements in computer technology invite us to utilize it in the field of education in an innovative way. It is a must that students possess the basic knowledge of using computers in order to cope up with this development. An example for this massive improvement is the newly developed way for communication such as using the web camera to communicate via computers as well as through smart phones. It is not exaggerated to say that those who do not know how to use computers are ill equipped for the future. We definitely have to make computer literacy a requirement for high school graduation.

When the yelling started, I used to hide under my bed and stay very quiet.
I would read any book that I could find to keep my mind off what was happening around me. I made myself a safe space under my bed with a light and pillows. I remember laying under there, wishing that I was one of the characters in my book. I prayed that somehow, I could be transported to another place where I felt safe and loved. However, through all that hardship, I developed a love for literacy. I would become so enthralled in a book that I could read for hours and never once look away. This assignment was one of the hardest paper we had to do in our quarter because, we had complete freedom on how we wanted to develop our topic. During the peer review I found out that I had done the assignment wrong and didn 't have a clear idea of what I wanted to project in my paper.
I took a moment to decide what I wanted to say and started to change and remove sentences that weren 't necessary.
